LIFE ADMIN UPDATE
I'm ending my long relationship with F@ceb00k. The amount of censorship is not democratic, nor is it within our rights to freedom of speech. We have been led down a rabbit hole of curated information for too long, both here and on Y0u Tube. I'm brave enough to walk away from a relationship that has turned toxic. This is not my first rodeo.
And while most Govts globally have been enabling that (even tax-free), we have had facial recognition technology pushed upon us through 'harmless' amendments to our 'trusted' social media channels.
My latest grievance is my inability to remove photos from here. My privacy, your privacy, has been lost. And so, I have humbly realised, that all the people who years ago were suspicious of this platform, were in fact right. We have lost our privacy.
I HAD MY PHOTOS USED WITHOUT MY PERMISSION
The reason I changed my profile and cover photos to words is that this is publicly available information. I should know. Once the NZ Herald took my FB profile photo and put it on pg 3 of their newspaper. Without my permission. They ran a story about my washed out wedding a few years ago and just took my profile photo (which also had my boys in it) and printed it. They also took my then cover photo, which was when my boyfriend was proposing to me. We were on the beach with some of by best friends standing nearby holding up signs with each of our children on the signs. They put that on the NZ Herald online article. How DARE they? (Legally they can because when we sign up to FB, we agree that our profile and cover pics are public property - did you know that?)
I have had a disquiet about it since then... but I didn't want to lose touch with my people on here. And so I stayed bound.
WHAT'S IN A NAME?
Perhaps, all along, M@rk Z and his cronies were laughing at us all as we sold our identities and stories, our connections, our habits and our lives to 'F@ceb00k'. They now have a global book of our faces. That's right. The name means more to them than it does to us. If you don't believe me, please watch The Social Dilemma on Netflix (if it hasn't been censored yet).
So, apologies to my nearest and dearest who have their photos on my profile. I have been complicit in the madness. I'll try my best to erase what I can.
If you also feel aggrieved by this platform (and Inst@gr@m will go for me too as it's all the same beasty)... The most powerful thing we can collectively do is say NO MORE. Drop the rope. Walk away. Stop fighting. Just walk out.
MY NEW CHANNEL OF CHOICE - UPDATED
UPDATE: I'm part of a team who has created a beautiful news space online. It's not for trollers, it's not for those who wish to segregate, it's not for anyone who thinks that supporting apartheid in NZ or any country is ok. If that sounds like you please reach out and I'll invite you in.
There is another platform I have chosen to be on. Especially while we are all so isolated from each other. I believe that one day we will be free again to hug, kiss, smile and laugh mask-free and in person as much as we want. The new platform I am moving to is called MeWe. It has full privacy, no ads, no algorithms, and is even has a Bill of Rights which is built on TRUST, RESPECT & INTEGRITY. I need me a whole lot more of that in my life.
Peace-out. Love you all. Hope to see a bunch of you on one of the new platforms. Go on, learn some new technology today. You know you're getting sick of FB's incessant ads, ridiculous censorship and lack of visibility over what you see.
